Messed up a door alignment on a '22 Civic last week

I was working on a 2022 Civic at my shop in Phoenix, trying to get the driver door gaps perfect after a side swipe repair. Tightened the hinges a bit too much without checking the shims first, and the bottom gap was way off by like 3mm. Had to pull the whole door off again, redo the shim placement, and it took me an extra 2 hours to get it right. Anyone else have a hinge adjustment go sideways that took way longer than expected?

Hold up, Civic doors don't actually use shims for hinge alignment. The hinges bolt directly to the body and door with slotted holes for adjustment. You might be thinking of the fender or door striker plate adjustment instead.

Wait so are you saying the factory never uses any kind of thin shim behind those hinge plates even for big panel gap tweaks? Or is that more of a body shop hack that some guys do?

Trust me, that sounds way too well planned for a Thursday afternoon.
