Shower thought: Why do we all keep using the same cheap seam sealer on quarter panel replacements?
I was out in Tulsa last week patching up a 2012 F-150 with a hole in the rear quarter. Used the standard 3M seam sealer like always and it cracked after three days of dry weather. Swapped to a polyurethane stuff from a local supply house and it held perfect through a rainstorm. Has anyone else had issues with that 3M stuff on big panels?

Had a buddy use the 3M on a 2011 Silverado quarter panel. Six months later, crack right down the seam. He had to grind the whole thing out and start over. Wet sanding that stuff is a nightmare too, gets everywhere. Stick with the polyurethane, way less headache down the road.

The 3M stuff is fine for small stuff like door seams or underhood patches, but on a big quarter panel replacement on an 2012 F-150, it's notorious for cracking. That panel flexes too much, especially on a work truck that sees weather. I swapped to the polyurethane stuff from a local supply house too, and it's been bulletproof through rain and heat. The 3M is a pain to clean up if it goes wrong, and it's way too brittle for something that size. It's not about being dramatic, it's about not having to redo the whole job in six months.
