That damn quarter panel gap took me 3 days, not 3 hours

Got a 2017 Civic in last Tuesday for a simple quarter panel blend. Customer said it was a quick hit and run, but the alignment was off by almost a quarter inch at the tail light. I spent the first 6 hours adjusting the bumper brackets and the trunk lid striker, still looked like my kid drew the lines. Ended up pulling the whole rear harness and found a cracked mounting tab behind the wheel well, that was the real culprit. Re-welded it in 40 minutes after two full days of fighting trim pieces. Has anyone else had a bumper cover hide a structural issue like that, or am I just cursed with modern plastic clips?
