That time a customer pointed out my tape lines and I actually listened
A guy with a classic Mustang told me my paint edge was too sharp where I masked off the trim. I started back-taping about 1/8 inch and softening the edge, and now clear coat adhesion is way better. Has anyone else gotten feedback from a customer that actually improved their work?

Another angle is that customer probably saved you from warranty work down the road. Those hard tape lines create weak spots where clear peels off after a few sun cycles. Back-taping spreads the stress out so the clear has more surface area to grab. It is a pain to do extra steps but beats having a guy come back in six months mad his paint is flaking.

Wait, hold on, what?! I'm sorry but I had to read that like three times. Are you seriously telling me that back-taping is actually a good thing for preventing peeling down the road? I just assumed it was some kind of lazy shortcut or a mistake. That is wild, I really thought it was the opposite for sure.
