The day I found out my 'perfect' fender gap was just a bent door

I mean, I was lining up a front fender on a Civic for like 45 minutes, getting the gap to the door just right. My helper walks by, opens the door, and the whole thing shifts. Turns out the door hinge was tweaked from the hit, and I'd been adjusting the fender to match a door that wasn't even sitting straight. I felt so dumb. Anyone else ever get fooled by something simple like that?

It's easy to get tunnel vision on one part and miss the bigger picture. You start chasing a symptom instead of finding the real cause. Always check the stuff that's supposed to be fixed first.

Oh man, that hits home. I spent a whole weekend trying to fix a weird noise in my car, buying new parts and everything. Turns out the mechanic had left a wrench in the engine bay after the last service. It was literally the thing that was "fixed" causing the new problem. Felt so silly for not looking there first.
