PSA: I found a way to keep my gravel path from washing out without using any extra plastic
My side yard path was a mess after every heavy rain, the gravel just kept washing down into the grass. I tried those plastic grid things you bury, but they felt flimsy and I didn't want more plastic in the ground. On my third try, I got a tip from a guy at the local garden center. He said to dig the path base a bit deeper, put down a solid 4 inch layer of crushed stone, pack it hard, and then put the pretty gravel on top. The key was using a plate compactor I rented for a day, about 40 bucks. I did that six months ago and we've had some crazy storms since, but the path hasn't moved an inch. The crushed stone layer locks everything in place. Has anyone else tried a method like this for keeping loose materials in place?
