I keep seeing people put their outdoor outlets way too low

I mean, maybe it's just me but I've been to three houses this month where the outlet for the patio lights was like six inches off the ground. My buddy in Springfield said his got flooded during a heavy rain and tripped his breaker. It matters because water and electricity are a bad mix, plus you have to bend down every time you plug something in. Has anyone else found a good height that works for lights and tools without looking weird?

Seriously, six inches is asking for trouble. When I redid my deck, I put the outlet box at 18 inches off the ground. It's high enough that puddles from a normal storm won't reach it, and I don't have to break my back to plug in the string lights or a drill. It looks totally normal next to the deck skirting too. My neighbor copied the height after his low one got wrecked by his sprinkler.

My contractor swears by 24 inches for flood zones.

Go with 18 inches, it's the sweet spot.
