I was watering my new patio plants for a month before I saw the problem

I put in a small paver patio in my Omaha backyard this spring and planted some hostas around the edges. I watered them every evening for about 30 days, thinking I was doing great. Then my brother visited, pointed at the ground, and said, 'You're just feeding the weeds.' I looked and saw the pavers were full of little green sprouts I hadn't even noticed. Has anyone else had a weed issue pop up right after a new patio install, and what's the best fix?

Maybe the plants are just really good at hide and seek. Could be a new gardening trend.
