Just leveled my patio stones for 3 weekends straight and still have dips
Some folks say to just use sand and eyeball it, others swear by a laser level and a plate compactor. Which camp are you in and did your project actually stay flat after a year?

Water flow underneath is the real killer nobody talks about. If your base isn't draining right, no amount of sand or lasers will save you from next winter's frost heave. Did you dig deep enough and put down proper gravel before the sand layer?

That's a tough spot to be in. Gravel really does make the difference for drainage, so it's good you're catching it now. Better to redo it this weekend than deal with frost heave next spring.

Hearing you say that makes me nervous just thinking about it. I always assumed the sand was enough, but now I'm wondering if I skimped on the gravel base, @ninaowens. Looks like I might be redoing some work this weekend.
