Just noticed everyone using cheap deck screws and it drives me nuts
I was helping a neighbor redo their patio steps last weekend and saw they had those silver coated deck screws from the big box store. Three of them snapped before I could even get them in. I switched to some coated exterior screws from a local hardware shop in Denver and the difference was night and day. That was 2 days ago and I'm still thinking about how much time and money people waste on the wrong fasteners. Has anyone else dealt with stripped out screws on a project that was supposed to be simple?

Oh man tell me about it, I spent a whole weekend fighting those cheap silver screws on a fence job last year and ended up just drilling everything out and starting over with actual exterior ones. It's like they're made of butter or something I swear.
