My neighbor's comment about his fire pit made me see my yard differently
I was helping my neighbor, Dave, move some pavers last weekend and he pointed at his simple stone fire pit. He said, 'I built this for $150 and it's where my family spends 90% of our time out here.' It hit me that I'd been planning a huge deck for months, but maybe the best upgrade is just a simple spot to gather. Has anyone else scaled back a big plan for something simpler that worked better?

Did you end up going with the fire pit instead @william_harris? I did something similar last year, we had these grand plans for a pergola with lights and everything, but my husband talked me into just pouring a small concrete pad and putting a $100 fire pit on it. Turns out he was right, we use it almost every weekend and never think about the pergola. The best part is when the weather turns bad we just wheel the pit into the garage, no cover needed or anything.

Dave's got a point but decks are way better for actually using the space. A fire pit is just a hole in the ground when it rains.
