Poured concrete vs paver patio: I did both and concrete won hands down
I see tons of people in here pushing pavers for every patio project, but after doing my own backyard two years ago I gotta disagree hard. I did one section in concrete and one in pavers just to see which I liked better. The concrete cost me about $4 per square foot and took a day to pour and finish. The paver section ran closer to $8 per square foot with the base prep, sand, and all that extra labor. Three winters in and the pavers have already shifted in a couple spots and I'm getting weeds between them every spring. The concrete slab has one hairline crack that I filled with some $10 caulk and it's been fine ever since. Plus I can just hose off the concrete and it looks clean, with pavers I'm out there with a weed torch twice a season. Has anyone else tried both and found one way better for their climate?

Did you use polymeric sand between the pavers?

My neighbor actually convinced me to do pavers first for this exact reason, but after watching his shift and mine stay flat through two freeze-thaw cycles, I switched my opinion completely. I put down polymeric sand and it still got washed out in heavy rain, then I was refilling gaps every other month. The concrete just sits there doing its job while I spend my weekends NOT weeding.
