Pro tip: My uncle in Phoenix said his $400 composite deck got so hot it melted a shoe, and now I'm rethinking my whole patio plan.

He told me 'that dark grey Trex gets hotter than asphalt in July' and I realized I never even considered surface temp for my kids.

Forget the deck, get a kiddie pool.

Ever think about lighter colored decking? My neighbor put in a light tan composite and it's way cooler to walk on. You could also look at adding a big patio umbrella or one of those sail shades for the hottest part of the day. It makes a huge difference for bare feet. Maybe test a sample piece in the sun before you buy a whole deck's worth.

Honestly, that sounds like a great way to cook breakfast.

Actually, that's for dinner, not breakfast. It's a pretty common mix up though. The recipe uses heavy ingredients that would just sit wrong first thing in the morning. Makes way more sense as a weekend supper.
