Showerthought: saw a $75 bamboo privacy screen in Edgewater and now I can't decide if it's genius or a waste
I was walking my dog past a house in Edgewater last Saturday and noticed they had put up a bamboo screen between their patio and the neighbor's yard instead of building a fence. It looked great, took them maybe an hour to install, and cost a fraction of what a wood fence quote would run. But I keep wondering if it actually holds up through a windy winter or if it just turns into a pile of sticks by spring. Has anyone here gone the roll-up screen route over a real fence, and did it survive more than a year?
Genuinely confused why this is even a debate. A 75 dollar roll of bamboo is not a fence, it is a temporary thing you put up so you do not have to look at your neighbor while you grill. Comparing it to a real wood fence is like comparing a tent to a house. Of course it will not last as long, that is the whole point. If you want something permanent, pay for a fence. If you want something cheap that looks fine for a season or two, buy the bamboo and stop overthinking it.
