Swapping grass for wildflowers was my best backyard move yet.

I got sick of mowing all the time. Threw down some native seed mix instead. People called it a weed patch. But the birds and bees moved right in. My yard feels alive now, not just green.

Well, your post reminds me of my neighbor who got really mad when dandelions popped up in my clover. He called the city, but they said it was fine. It's funny how some people see a weed and others see a bee buffet. I remember @patricia_gonzalez mentioning her bees, and that's exactly what happened for me too. My grumpy neighbor still shakes his head, but the butterflies don't seem to mind his opinion one bit. It's worth the odd look to have all that life buzzing around.

Sweet! Any surprise visitors in your wildflower yard?

Did you see more bees in the first year or did it take a while? I tossed out a wildflower mix last fall. So over the constant mowing. Now it's a mess of color and movement. My kids love spotting the different bugs. The robins and finches are always hopping around. Just feels right to let it grow a bit wild.

In my garden, bees showed up the first year, @the_iris.
