That $200 'permanent' outdoor rug I bought basically melted after 3 months of real sun
I live in Phoenix and thought I was being smart buying a supposedly weatherproof rug for my patio. Paid about $200 for a polypropylene one rated for full sun, figured it would last a couple years at least. By month two the edges were already fraying and the color faded to a weird orange. By month three the backing literally started crumbling and it left sticky residue on my concrete. I pulled up the rug and that spot is now stained and ruined, so replacing the concrete is gonna cost way more. Has anyone else found an outdoor rug that actually holds up in intense heat, or should I just give up and go with something else?

Rated for full sun" is a marketing gimmick, not a guarantee. I'm gonna push back here because $200 for an outdoor rug is honestly entry level pricing for something that lives in direct Phoenix sun. In my experience, you get what you pay for with outdoor textiles. A polypropylene rug at that price point is basically a heavy duty tarp with fringe. The issue isn't that outdoor rugs are a scam, it's that the permanent label on a mass produced rug means it's built for a covered porch in Ohio, not an exposed patio in Arizona where the surface temp hits 150 degrees. If you want something that actually lasts, you need a solution dyed acrylic rug from a specialty manufacturer, or you need to design your space around a rug that gets rotated out every season. Your concrete stain is a bummer for sure, but that's a prep issue too. Most people skip sealing their patio before laying down a rubber backed rug, and that's where the real damage happens.
