The 1,000 pound paver delivery that proved me wrong about driveway bases

Everyone online keeps saying you need 4 inches of crushed stone under pavers. I thought that was overkill for a garden path I was putting in. Had a local place drop off a yard of gravel, weighed it out to about 1,000 pounds when spread. After a wet spring in Ohio, half my path sank 2 inches and shifted. The spots where I went thicker, closer to 4 inches, stayed perfect. So yeah, the pros were right. Wish I'd measured instead of eyeballing it. Has anyone else skipped the base and regretted it?

Measured instead of eyeballing it" hit me square in the gut. I did the same thing on a patio last summer, skimped on the gravel, and now I'm looking at a wavy mess. You're right, the pros knew what they were talking about.
