The $40 patio umbrella that flipped upside down in a light breeze, bought a $120 one

I figured all umbrellas were the same until mine folded inside out in a normal gust, and the cheap pole snapped at the base, so what's the actual difference between the $80 and $200 models that hold up in wind?

Check the wind rating on the spec sheet, most cheap ones are only tested for like 15 mph while the good ones handle 30+, and that number tells you way more than the price tag ever will.

Yeah but wind ratings are like those "dry clean only" tags, they're more of a suggestion until the thing ends up in your neighbor's pool. Guess we're all just playing lawn roulette with our patio furniture until the first big storm hits.
