The neighbor who stopped me while I was hauling bags of concrete said one thing that stuck with me
He told me to spend $12 on a tamper instead of worrying about leveling my paver base by eye. Has anyone else found a cheap tool that saved them hours of rework?

Did you ever think about how a simple tool like that can change your whole mindset? I was pouring a small patio once and grabbed a really cheap level from a dollar store, and that thing was so bent it made me think my whole slab was crooked. Ended up ripping it out and starting over the next weekend, which was brutal. But then @riley_wood84, your story about Harbor Freight toolkits reminds me of when I got a "free" pry bar with a purchase that snapped clean in half trying to pop up a paver. Sometimes you gotta spend a little extra just to save your sanity, not just your time. Ngl, that tamper advice probably saved that neighbor more than $12 worth of hassle in the long run.

That $20 tool kit I bought from Harbor Freight (the one with the crappy screwdrivers) actually fell apart after two uses, so I ended up spending way more time dealing with stripped screws and busted handles. Sometimes the "saving time upfront" thing just means you wasted money on something you thought would work but didn't really. It's not always that serious, you know, sometimes you just get what you pay for and pay for it twice.
