Vent: Tired of seeing people put patio furniture right on the grass
My neighbor Jim just spent $800 on a nice teak set and set it directly on his lawn in Arlington. Three weeks later the legs are already rotting and the grass underneath is dead. I told him a simple gravel base with pavers would have cost maybe $60 at Home Depot and saved the whole setup. Why does everyone skip this basic step?

Agree completely, I've seen this exact mistake way too many times. Even a cheap tarp underneath would help some but people just plop furniture right on damp ground and wonder why it falls apart. The moisture wicks up into the wood joints and seals in rot within weeks. Plus the grass underneath gets smothered and turns into a muddy patch that looks terrible. A simple paver base or even some old concrete stepping stones would completely change how that set holds up and keeps the lawn healthy too.

Yeah it's wild how fast that happens. A buddy of mine lost a nice wooden bench in like two months because he just set it out on the grass. Now it's just a mossy mess and he's kicking himself.

Right? It drives me nuts too. My sister in law did the same thing last year with a nice wicker set and by fall the legs were all warped and the cushions had these nasty mold spots on the bottom. A $20 pack of concrete pavers from Lowe's would have saved the whole thing. It's just one of those simple steps nobody thinks about until the damage is done. Feels like a cheap lesson but it's painful to watch happen.
