Appreciation post: That time a kid squirmed and I nicked his ear in my chair

It was my third cut of the day, and I had to stop everything to grab a styptic pencil while his mom glared. Has anyone found a good way to keep the really young ones still without making it a whole thing?

Honestly, reading about the mom glaring makes me wonder. A tiny nick from a squirm is pretty normal, and it stops bleeding fast with that pencil. It seems like we're all treating a small scratch like a major event. Maybe the problem isn't keeping the kid perfectly still, it's everyone's reaction to a minor thing. The goal is a haircut, not a statue session. A little patience for normal kid fidgeting might lower the stress for everyone.

Yeah, patience helps, but I keep a cheap toy in my other hand to swap in when they start to squirm.

Right? Why are we so scared of a tiny scratch? It's just a haircut, not surgery.
