Clipper slipped mid-fade, client laughed it off. Do you push through or restart?

Last Saturday in Denver, I was doing a skin fade and my clipper guard popped off leaving a 2-inch bald strip right above the ear. I froze for a second, told the guy straight up what happened, and he just said 'fix it however, I'm not picky' so I blended it shorter and it actually looked fine. Question is, when something like that hits mid-cut, do you own the mistake and adapt or tear the whole thing down and start over?

so is the real question about your pride vs the client's time? cause i feel like if that guy was cool with it and you pulled it off, that's a win. but i've seen barbers nuke a whole fade over one slip and the client ends up sitting there an extra 45 minutes for no reason, way more pissed than if they'd just embraced the shorter look. what actually makes you decide to restart, is it about how bad the slip is or more about whether you think you can trust your own hands again after a mistake like that? because honestly i judge it by the hair type, if it's super coarse and dark a restart might be cleaner, but on most heads adapting saves everyone's day. also, did you charge them full price after that lol?

Last Saturday I had a similar thing happen with a #4 guard on a kid's head, left a stripe right down the temple. I pushed through and evened it out, took maybe 10 extra minutes, and the dad tipped heavier because the kid thought the "racing stripe" was cool. But that worked because the hair was light brown and forgiving. For me, the restart decision comes down to how dark and thick the hair is. If it's coarse black hair and I slip, trying to blend a bald spot usually makes it worse, that's when I own it and start over. You got lucky with a chill client and a fixable spot, but I've seen too many barbers convince themselves they saved a cut when the client is staring in the mirror sideways the whole time. Charge full price only if the final look is clean, otherwise you're just training people you're okay with half-ass work.
