Debate: Are skin fades overrated in modern barbering?

Some barbers swear by them for client appeal, others think they lack artistry. Curious on your views.

My own skin fade from last month ended up so high and tight I looked like a confused marine. Greg, my barber, was on autopilot and just zoned out doing the same fade he does for every guy in the shop. I mean, it's clean, but there's zero personality to it... like a haircut template. Now I'm growing it out just to have something to work with, and it's a weird, patchy mess. Maybe if barbers mixed it up more, I wouldn't be hiding under hats for weeks. But hey, at least it was quick and cheap, right?

Barbers falling into a routine with fades shows how lots of services now go for speed over personal touch. It happens everywhere, from coffee shops serving the same drinks to stores selling identical clothes. We get quick and cheap options, but lose the unique details that make things interesting (you know, like how kid's meals always come with the same toy). That focus on efficiency leaves us with cookie-cutter results that don't really fit anyone. Growing out a bad haircut just highlights how much better things are when they're actually made for you.

Honestly, skin fades are everywhere and it's kind of boring now. They look sharp but doing them all day must get real repetitive for barbers. I get why guys ask for them, but it sucks when that's all shops push for quick money. There's so much more to cutting hair than just those fades. Barbers should be able to show off their real talent with other styles too.
