Electric clippers vs. straight razor for the old-timer crowd, take my pick

I've been cutting a 78 year old guy's hair every third Tuesday for about 4 years now, and I finally had to choose between a quick clipper trim or a full straight razor shave around the ears and neck. Went with the clippers to keep it fast, but his skin is so thin now that the razor burn showed up two days later when he came back for a fix. Anyone else hit this wall with older clients and end up switching tools mid-cut?

Hang onto that clipper setup, man. My grandpa had the same issue with his barber, guy tried a straight razor on his neck once and he looked like he got into a fight with a cat for a week. Ended up just buzzing the sides and leaving the neck line soft, no sharp edges at all. Now he swears by that old clipper guard trick where you pull the skin taut with two fingers, made a world of difference. You probably already know that though, just figured I'd toss it out there since you're dealing with that thin skin thing too.
