Had a kid ask me why I use two mirrors during a haircut yesterday
He was about 8 years old just watching me at the shop in Cleveland, and he said 'are you trying to see the back of your own head too?' Really made me think about how we take those little moves for granted. Has anyone else had a client ask a question that made you rethink a basic habit?

Nah, I gotta push back on this one. Kids noticing stuff is fine but they're also nosy and don't know what they're talking about half the time. That comb sniffing thing sounds like a nervous tic more than anything useful, and now that guy is probably self-conscious about it for no reason. People get stuck on autopilot all the time because it works. That barber with the two mirrors knows exactly what he's doing, he doesn't need an eight year old's approval. If anything, we should stop acting like every random kid's question is some deep life lesson. Sometimes a habit is just a habit and it gets the job done without needing a TED Talk.

Heard a story from my buddy who cuts hair downtown. This little girl asked him why he always sniffs his comb before using it. He didn't even know he did that until she pointed it out, felt kind of embarrassed. Turns out he was just checking for leftover hair product or something, but now he's stuck trying to explain that habit to every kid who walks in. Cracks me up how kids notice the weirdest things we do. Ever catch yourself doing something on autopilot like that?
