Hit 500 straight days of barbering without a single walkout

I just checked my booking app and realized I haven't had a client leave mid haircut in over 16 months. That's 500 days of nobody walking out on me, which is pretty wild for a shop in downtown Austin where people are always in a hurry. I think it happened because I started asking every client about their weekend plans before I even pick up the clippers. It sounds simple but it builds trust fast and lets me catch their vibe early. Has anyone else seen a big change just from tweaking your opening conversation?

Victor's point about the scripted question is fair, but I think you're missing something. Sometimes people need that small talk to warm up, you know? A lot of folks come in nervous or awkward, and a simple "how's your weekend looking" can break the ice in a way that just jumping straight into cutting doesn't. It's not about being deep, it's about being human in a weirdly intimate situation (sitting still while someone messes with your hair).
