Just had a guy request a zero fade with a straight razor only in Chicago last week
I was working at Tony's Barbershop over on Harlem Ave when this older guy sits down and says he wants a full zero fade with no clippers, just a straight razor. I figured he was joking but he was dead serious. Took me almost an hour and I had to be super careful but honestly the result was way cleaner than any clipper fade I've done. Has anyone else tried something like this or is this just a weird Chicago thing?

Nah, that's just extra work for no reason. Clippers exist for a reason. Why make yourself sweat through an hour when you can knock out a clean zero fade in 20 minutes tops? Sounds like a gimmick to me.

Honestly, calling it a gimmick is kind of missing the point. "Sweat through an hour" is a huge exaggeration, you get faster with practice. Tbh, the straight razor gives you way more control over details like the hairline and hard lines. Clippers can leave a blunt edge, especially if your skin isn't perfectly flat. Ngl, the finish is cleaner and the outline lasts longer between cuts. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely not just extra work for no payoff.

@jason_lewis3 straight razors actually take more like 10-15 minutes once you're good at it.
