Old barber told me to stop using thinning shears so much

Guy named Ray who's been cutting hair in Chicago since the 80s said I was overusing thinning shears on every head. I thought he was just being old school but I tried doing a whole cut without them yesterday and the blend actually came out way cleaner. Has anyone else had luck cutting back on thinning shears or is this just a specific hair type thing?

Yeah Robin I know it sounds wild but Ray's still at it, been using him for my wavy mess for years now. He's one of those old school barbers who actually listens instead of just buzzing everything off. Really glad to hear he's helped other people too, finding someone who gets your hair is honestly half the battle.

15 years of thinning shear abuse made me look like a poodle that lost a fight with a lawnmower, so yeah Ray saved me too. Now I just use them on the really thick spots and my blends actually stay blended.
