Rant: I thought those TikTok barber challenges were just for show

I saw a video for the 'shadow fade' challenge and figured it was just a flashy trend, but a regular at my shop in Tacoma asked for one last Friday. I gave it a shot with my Andis Master clippers and was shocked at how clean the blend turned out, even on his coarse hair. It actually taught me a new way to check my graduation lines. Has anyone else tried a social media cut that ended up being a solid technique?

My old mentor in Philly taught me a similar shadow check with a single incandescent bulb.

Yeah, it's a legit technique, not just for show.

Totally agree with @the_claire, it's a real method. The key is using the light to check your work from every angle. That shadow line doesn't lie if you get the light right.
