Rant: my clipper guard fell apart mid-buzz on a fussy client

I was doing a skin fade on a regular last Tuesday in Austin and the #2 guard just split right down the middle, sent hair everywhere. The client saw it and started laughing, but I was mortified because I had to finish the whole cut with scissors and a trimmer. Anyone else had a tool die on them at the worst possible moment, and how do you handle the awkwardness.

Was the guy actually upset or was he just laughing because he thought it was funny? Sounds like you handled it fine with scissors and a trimmer, and honestly that's more than most barbers would do in that spot. Tools break, it happens, but if the client is laughing, that means he's not mad, so what's the real problem? You finished the cut, he got his fade, and now you've got a story to tell. That's not a disaster, that's just Tuesday.
