TIL cutting wet hair changed everything for me

I was at the Philly Barber Expo last month and watched this old school guy do a fade on damp hair. Always thought you had to cut dry so I was skeptical. He got way cleaner lines and less pulling on the clippers. Tried it on my next 3 clients and now I'm a believer. Anyone else switch to cutting wet or am I late to the party?

Holding onto "torres.thea said we just get locked into one way of doing things" - I get what you're saying but is this really that big of a deal? I've been cutting hair for fifteen years and I do it dry because that's just how I learned and it works fine. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how damp hair changes the whole game like some folks are making it out to be. Seems like one of those things where people get excited about a small tweak and act like it's a revolution.

I started cutting damp hair a few years back and it was a game changer for me too. The clippers glide so much smoother and I get way less static or flyaways. For fades especially, I noticed the blend lines come out softer and more natural. Only thing I had to watch was not pressing too hard or it can get choppy when it dries.

Is it just me or do we overcomplicate stuff like this all the time? I swear every trade or skill I've dipped into has some stubborn unwritten rule everyone treats like gospel until someone breaks it and shows a better way. Cutting wet hair makes total sense when you think about it - less friction, more control, cleaner results. Same thing happened with cooking shows telling everyone not to salt things early, then it turns out salting early actually brings out flavor. We just get locked into one way of doing things because that's how we learned it, and it takes someone showing us different to snap out of it.
