Unpopular opinion: thinning shears are overrated for most fades

Honestly, I see so many guys reaching for thinning shears to blend out a fade, especially on coarse hair. I used to do it too, but after about 6 months of sticking with just my clippers and a good mirror technique, I get way smoother transitions. Thinning shears leave this weird texture that looks messy after a week, while clipper-over-comb holds up longer. Has anyone else ditched the shears and found better results?

Ain't that the truth? Why fix what ain't broke with more tools?

Honestly, I used to think thinning shears were essential, but "clipper over comb" totally changed my mind just now.

Coarse hair is exactly where thinning shears mess up the most. You hit the center of the blade and it just creates these unnatural weak spots that grow out looking choppy. Clipper over comb lets you feather that heavy bulk gradually, keeping the density where it needs to be. A good lever adjustment and some wrist angle changes do what shears claim to do but way cleaner.
