Vent: I just read that barbering licenses have a 75% pass rate on the first try in my state.
Found that on the state board's website last night. It's way lower than I thought. Some guys say it's good, keeps standards high. Others think it's too hard and keeps people out of the trade. The test here costs $125 to take again. What's the rate like where you are? Do you think the test is fair?

Wait, 75% first time pass rate is actually pretty high. That means 3 out of 4 people pass. I saw the electrician test here has like a 50% rate. The barber test should be hard, you're using sharp tools on people's heads. The fee to retake sucks, but it makes you study. If it was 90% pass, then what's the point of the test?

Yeah but that 50% electrician test is just a written exam, not a live haircut with someone judging your fade.

The electrician practical exam here in Phoenix is a full day of live wiring, not just a written test. That 50% fail rate comes from people messing up real circuits under a time limit.

Have you ever seen what happens when someone fails a barber practical? The 75% pass rate sounds good until you realize they're testing on mannequins, not real people. A written test for electricians is one thing, but barbers work on moving clients who bleed if you slip. The high fee to retake just punishes people who get nervous, it doesn't prove they can't cut hair.
