Worst Saturday I've had in a while with walk-ins

Last Saturday I had three no-shows back to back and then a guy walked in wanting a skin fade with a coupon from 2019. Tried to honor it but he complained the whole time about the fade being too high. Anyone else get customers who bring in ancient coupons?

Did you try explaining the coupon expired and offering a smaller discount instead? I had a lady bring in a coupon from 2018 once. I told her straight up I couldn't honor the full deal but offered 10% off. She was annoyed but took it. Saved me from losing my whole day. Also learned to check the expiration before I even start cutting.

Expanding on what Margaret said about checking expiration before you start is huge. That's the lesson I had to learn the hard way too. Now I always glance at the date before I even say "sure, hop in the chair." It saves you from that awkward spot where you're already committed and the client is expecting the full deal. The coupon from 2019 thing is wild though, I feel like some people just stuff them in their glovebox and forget they exist until they see your sign again.

Old coupons like that usually mean the person hasn't been in since they got it, so you're dealing with someone who doesn't know your current prices or policies. Might be worth having a sign right at the check-in counter about expiration dates so you can point to it before the haircut starts. A quick "these expired in 2020" usually stops the argument before it goes anywhere.
