Cup-and-cone hubs finally made sense after one tip

I often found hub adjustment confusing and time-consuming. Ngl, a fellow mechanic told me to listen for the 'click' when tightening the locknut, and it worked perfectly. What little hints do you rely on for precision work?

Remember replacing a bottom bracket and fighting the lockring for an hour. Was about to strip it. Grabbed a hammer and punch, gave the notches a few solid taps to break the seal, then it threaded right off. Sometimes you just need to shock things loose.

Smart move, those taps basically trick the threads into thinking they're still turning together. Real mechanics know when to bend the rules a little.

Bending the rules a little... I once fixed a loose mirror with duct tape during a road trip. It stayed on for the next thousand miles.

My old truck's tailgate latch broke in a Walmart parking lot. Used a zip tie and a stick as a temporary fix. That held for like eight months. @hayden_rivera gets it, sometimes you just need to hit it or rig it. The real trick is knowing which temporary fix might just be the permanent one.
