Debate: Hitting 10,000 miles in a year on the same bike? Here's my take.
I just crossed 10,000 miles on my 2018 Trek Domane last month. That number surprised me because I never track mileage much. Some guys in my shop say it's a waste of time and parts wear out faster. But I think it's a solid milestone if you keep up on maintenance like chain swaps every 2,000 miles. The counter side is that it pressures people into riding for numbers instead of fun. What's your cutoff where miles stop mattering and it's just about enjoying the ride?

Used to think riding for mileage was just ego chasing honestly. But seeing you hit 10k on the same bike and still loving it makes me rethink that. Maybe the trick is just not letting the numbers own you, you know?

A buddy of mine, Chris, hit 10,000 miles on his 2016 Specialized Roubaix last fall. He was training for a big ride and got obsessed with the number, doing loops around his neighborhood just to bump the miles. By the end his knees were killing him and he said it felt more like work than fun. He ended up taking two weeks off the bike completely after that, just to reset. Now he only rides when he feels like it and says his average dropped but his enjoyment went way up. So for him, that 10k mark was where the numbers stopped mattering and he had to relearn why he rides.
