Had a customer in Portland insist his derailleur was 'haunted'

Dude came in last Wednesday swearing his rear derailleur shifted by itself at night. I checked the cable routing and found a frayed housing under the bar tape that was catching moisture. Told him it wasn't ghosts, just water creeping into the line. Has anyone else dealt with weird explainations from customers about shifting problems?

Man, I gotta push back on the whole "it wasn't ghosts" thing. You ever had a bike that just knew when you were walking past it in the dark? I had a old Trek once that would drop a gear if I even thought about climbing a hill, no moisture in sight. Sometimes the universe just gets bored and messes with your shift cables, you feel me?

Oh jeez, I'm pretty sure my own bike just sighs and rolls its tires when it sees me coming up the driveway with that exact same guilty thought.
