My uncle insisted I should always grease pedal threads, even on aluminum cranks. Tried it on a customer's bike last week and it worked perfectly.

My old shop teacher swore against it.

Matthew394's teacher knew what was up, mine was the same way.

Honestly, he was probably right. Some of those old school guys had a lot of hard-won experience.

Hold on there. Your uncle was right about greasing threads but it's not about it working perfectly or not. The real reason is to stop galvanic corrosion between the aluminum crank and steel pedal spindle. They're different metals, they react with each other over time, and that's what causes them to seize up. You got lucky this time but don't think it always prevents creaking. The grease just makes it easier to get the pedals off later, especially after a wet winter. Tbh, your customer is gonna be thanking you in a few years when they don't have to fight a seized pedal.
