Overheard a mechanic say 'just clean the chain with diesel'

Heard this guy at the shop last week telling a customer to use diesel fuel to degrease their chain. I always use citrus degreaser, but has anyone else tried this or is it just gonna wreck seals and smell terrible?

Nah man diesel will eat those rubber seals alive, stick with the citrus stuff.

Saw a guy on YouTube use gasoline to clean his intake gaskets once. Real 200 IQ move until he had to buy a whole new set of gaskets.

Miller's right though, learned that one the hard way myself lmao. Rubber seals are not cheap to replace after that mistake.
