Spent 3 hours chasing a creak on a Surly Cross Check that turned out to be a dry seatpost collar
Last Tuesday a guy brought in his Cross Check complaining about a creak every pedal stroke, so I pulled the cranks, greased the BB threads, checked the chainring bolts, and even swapped the pedals, which ate up close to 3 hours. Turned out the seatpost collar was dry and the saddle rails were shifting just enough to sound like it was coming from the bottom bracket. How do you all narrow down where a creak is actually coming from before you start tearing the bike apart?
