That customer who told me I was over-torquing everything got under my skin

Had a guy come in last Tuesday with a carbon frame he built up himself. He watched me set the torque wrench and said I was going too tight, that I should just use the "feel" method. I laughed it off at first but then he showed me his bars were slipping after 50 miles from going to loose. It hit me different because I realized I've been second guessing my own torque specs for years just to avoid arguments. I checked 3 different Park Tool docs after he left and confirmed I was dead on. Has anyone else had a know-it-all customer make you question stuff you KNOW is right?

That "feel method" thing always gets me, I've seen way too many carbon bars crack from people just guessing. Your story really drives home how one confident but wrong customer can mess with your head for years. Good on you for double checking with the Park Tool docs.

Respectfully, I think the "feel method" gets a bad rap (mostly from people who never actually learned it properly). The torque wrench is a tool, not a replacement for knowing when something feels off.
