Thinking back, barrel adjusters used to be right where you needed them

Modern bikes often hide adjusters, making quick fixes harder.

Hidden adjusters look way cleaner though. Most modern parts hold their adjustment better anyway, so you're not constantly fiddling with them.

Wait, what parts hold adjustment better? My modern derailleur is still super finicky on every bumpy trail!

Contradict what bethbailey said about parts holding adjustment better. Modern indexed shifting has tighter tolerances, so a little cable stretch or housing compression throws it off faster. That's exactly when you need an easy to reach barrel adjuster, not one hidden under the chainstay.
