A coworker told me I was bingeing shows wrong. She was right.

I always skip around in shows. Watch episode 5 then 2, skip the boring parts. This girl at work saw me doing it and said I was ruining the experience. Called me out for missing character development and little details that pay off later. I got defensive at first but tried it her way with The Bear. Watched every episode in order no skipping. Caught so many small moments I would have missed. Now I watch everything straight through unless its really bad. Anybody else have someone call them out on their watching habits?

Its kind of wild how defensive people get about how you watch stuff. Youre right though, it does hit different when you commit to the full ride. The Bear especially is built on those tiny details that feel random until they stop and explain later. The real issue nobody talks about is that skipping around trains your brain to expect instant payoff. You end up judging everything in five minute chunks instead of letting a story breathe. I noticed the same thing when I started reading books again after years of just scrolling on my phone. Your brain literally rewires itself to be impatient. Once you break that habit, shows and movies get a lot better.

You ever notice how quitting the skip-ahead habit feels like you're actually watching a whole different show? A buddy of mine (@jakejones, funny enough) was the biggest skipper until he missed a key clue in a mystery series and got the ending completely wrong, which drove him crazy. It took him a full rewatch to realize the payoff came from the slow stuff he'd always fast-forwarded through, and now he swears by watching everything start to finish.
