Found a hack for skipping filler episodes in long-running shows

Last weekend I was trying to get through season 4 of a 15 season show and kept hitting episodes that felt like nothing happened. I looked up a filler list online and skipped about 30 episodes across 3 seasons, saving me maybe 15 hours. Anyone else use those skip lists or do you just watch everything no matter how boring?

Oh man, my buddy Dave tried that exact thing with a 200-episode anime and it backfired hard. He skipped like 40 filler episodes based on some online list, then got to the season finale and had no clue who half the characters were or why they were fighting. Turns out the list he used was for a different series with a similar name. He spent like 3 hours on wiki pages trying to piece together what he missed before just giving up and starting over from scratch.

Ngl that's tragic but also kind of hilarious in a "thank god it wasn't me" way. I had a friend who did something similar with a long-running crime show, skipped what she thought were "pointless stand-alone episodes" and then spent a whole season confused about why a main character was suddenly dead. She refused to believe she messed up and insisted the writers were just bad at telling stories.

@vera_robinson36 your friend's story is exactly why I don't trust myself with those lists. I tried one for a sci-fi show and skipped what I thought was a boring side plot. Turned out that side plot explained why the main villain had a sudden power upgrade three seasons later. Spent two hours rewatching old episodes trying to figure it out.
