I finally gave up on skipping intros after trying the cold open method on a rewatch of The Wire

I was at a friend's place in Portland last month and he insisted we watch a season 4 episode without skipping the opening credits. He said the intro music builds tension and sets the mood for the whole episode, especially with the montage of Baltimore scenes. I tried it on a rewatch of The Wire and honestly it added a layer of immersion I never got from jumping straight into the episode. Has anyone else found that skipping intros actually hurts the binge experience?

My buddy Mark from Seattle used to rip through whole seasons of shows without ever hearing the theme song once. Then he decided to actually watch The Pacific credits one night and texted me halfway through episode 2 blowing up about how the music and faces really made him feel the weight of the whole thing. Now he sits through every HBO intro like it's a ritual before each episode. He even gets annoyed when I try to fast forward past the Sopranos theme at his place.

My coworker had that exact same thing happen with the Band of Brothers intro - he skipped it for years until one night he actually watched the whole thing and now he treats it like a sacred ritual. @the_jake your buddy Mark is right about The Pacific, that intro is seriously heavy.
