Just realized my binge-watching rule was killing my enjoyment

I used to force myself to watch only one episode a night of any show. Then my buddy pointed out that I was treating it like a chore and missing the whole point of a good series. He said I needed to let myself get absorbed or I'd never really connect with the story. So last week I tried his way and binged 5 episodes of 'The Bear' in one sitting. It felt wrong at first but now I actually remember character details and jokes. Has anyone else had someone call them out on a dumb TV habit that totally changed the game?

Did you ever think that maybe the rule itself was the problem? @lewis.terry, the subtitles thing is a good example. People get so caught up in rules they forget why they watch shows in the first place. It's just entertainment. If you're not having fun, what's the point?

The Bear is exactly the kind of show that rewards binging because the stress kinda builds up between episodes. My own weird rule was that I had to watch every show with subtitles even if it was in English, thought I was being smart. Then my sister caught me rewinding three times on a simple scene and asked why I was treating TV like homework. Now I only turn them on for mumbly dialogue shows like Peaky Blinders and it feels way more natural.

Funny you mention subtitles my cousin used to pause every time his phone buzzed and thought he was being thorough. Told him he was missing more show than he was watching and now he just lets notifications pile up til the credits roll.
