My big flip on needing subtitles to enjoy a show

I always thought subtitles were for people who couldn't hear well or for foreign films. They looked cluttered and took my eyes off the action. But then I tried to binge a crime drama with lots of mumbling and background noise. I kept missing important lines and had to pause all the time. So I gave subtitles a shot, and wow, it changed everything. I caught every detail and finally understood the twist endings. Now I turn them on for every show, even the easy ones. Some say it spoils the flow or makes them read instead of watch, but for me, it means I never miss a thing. How about you, do you use subtitles or find them in the way?

I started using subtitles for Peaky Blinders because the accents were too thick. Now I catch every muttered threat and plot detail I used to miss. It’s just how I watch everything now.

Totally ruins jokes for me. The punchline hits before the actor even says it.

Ugh yes, and it's part of this thing now where people can't just have a quiet moment to get something. Everything needs a cue or a sign telling you how to feel. It's like we're all getting trained to react on command instead of just letting a joke land on its own. Really takes the soul out of watching stuff.

Nah, it helps sync up the audience's reaction so the laugh feels bigger. Makes the whole thing more fun when everyone gets it together.
