My sister told me to skip the first season of 'The Expanse' and I'm so glad I didn't listen.

Honestly, I used to tell people the same thing, that they could jump ahead. I changed my mind after rewatching it. You miss all the small details that make the politics make sense later. It's a slow burn, but that groundwork is everything. Skipping it just leaves you confused about why anyone is doing anything.

Wait you actually told people to skip season one? That's wild lol. I tried that once and spent the whole next season googling who people were and why they were mad. The slow parts are where they hide all the clues about who's going to betray who later. Skipping it is like starting a book at chapter ten.

I mean the world building in season one is pretty important though.

The way Ceres station is introduced in that first season really sets the tone for everything... you can't get that feel for the place just from reading a summary. @kim.jake is right, trying to skip ahead just leaves you feeling lost about who hates who and why. I actually told a buddy to stick with it through those early episodes and he ended up loving the build up more than the action later. That slow crawl through the detective stuff is what makes the payoff hit harder in my opinion.
