Picked subtitled Korean drama over dubbed and it changed everything

I was deciding between watching 'Crash Landing on You' with the English dub or the original Korean with subtitles and went with subtitles after my friend insisted. The acting felt way more real and I caught so many emotional moments that got lost in the dubbed version. Has anyone else switched from dubbed to subtitles and found it made a show way better?

Oh man, subtitles are the way to go for sure! I actually watched part of a dubbed anime once and the voices didn't match the characters' faces at all, it was like watching a badly synced video game cutscene. The thing people don't talk about enough is how the original language captures the culture of the show. Like in Korean dramas, there's honorifics and ways of speaking that tell you so much about the relationship between characters, and dubbing just flattens all that out into plain English. I tried watching Squid Game dubbed for two minutes and switched right back to subtitles because the emotional tone of the voices just felt off to me. You get used to reading fast after a few episodes and it becomes second nature, plus you never miss a beat of the actual performance.

100% agreed with everything you said, @diana617. I tried watching a dubbed episode of that Spanish show Money Heist and the guy playing The Professor sounded like a cartoon character. Totally killed the tension for me. The original actors put so much work into their delivery, and dubbing just throws all that away. Why would you want to watch a worse version of the show, you know?
