Stuck between Game of Thrones and The Wire for a rewatch

Last month I had to pick what show to binge again during my 2 week vacation. Everyone online kept saying The Wire was the best show ever made. I tried it 3 times before and never got past episode 4. So I went with Game of Thrones despite all the hate about the final season. Honestly I had a great time rewatching seasons 1 through 4 and stopping there. That was the right call for me personally. Has anyone else just skipped the bad seasons of a show and called it a day?

Honestly, "stopping at season 4" is just admitting the show fell off, not that it was a smart rewatch. If you're gonna commit, watch the whole thing or don't bother. The Wire didn't click for you because you didn't push past episode 4, but season 5 has some weak moments too and people still defend it as a complete story. Skipping bad seasons feels like eating only the frosting off a cake and calling it a full meal.

Watch the whole thing if you want, but life's too short to force yourself through stuff you don't enjoy. I've quit shows halfway through before and never regretted it.

Episode 4 of The Wire is where I almost quit too, but I kept going and it got better after that. I get what @sean_cooper58 is saying about not forcing things you don't enjoy, but I think skipping seasons is fine if you know what you're getting into. Season 5 of The Wire has that fake serial killer plot that drags, but I wouldn't tell someone to skip the whole thing just because of a few weak episodes. Eating just frosting sounds pretty good to me actually, especially if the cake part is dry and boring.
